Venus N.R. Smith

Venus N.R. Smith currently serves as the Program Coordinator for the Funeral Service Education Program at Jefferson State Community College since August 2009. She has been employed with the college since 1998. Ms. Smith graduated from the Funeral Service Education Program with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Funeral Service Education in 1998 and is licensed as a Funeral Director and Embalmer with Smith & Gaston Funeral Services, Inc. in Birmingham, Alabama. She maintains a Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia State University in Animal Science and a Master of Education (Biology) degree from the University of Montevallo. 


Ms. Smith is also an instructor within the Funeral Service Education Department. She teaches the following: Funeral Service Law & Ethics, Comprehensive Review, Internship, Principle of Computer Application and Restorative Art I and II, and she serves as the Distance Learning Coordinator for the Funeral Service Education Program since its existence. Outside of teaching 


Ms. Smith is very active with the national and state funeral service associations, Alabama Funeral Directors & Morticians Association, Inc. and the National Funeral Directors & Morticians Association, Inc. for over 20 years. Ms. Smith served as District Five Governor, Education Commissioner and currently serves as a board member for the National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association and serves as the Recording Secretary and chairperson for several standing committee for the Alabama Funeral Directors and Morticians Association. She is an active member of several professional organizations.
